Ghadames is one of Libya’s oldest cities, renowned for its unique cultural and historical identity. It has preserved its architectural and social heritage over the centuries. Among the most prominent aspects of this heritage are the traditional jewelry worn by women, which reflect artistic excellence and profound social and cultural meanings. These ornaments played an important role in both daily life and special occasions. Their designs combined authenticity with symbolic expression, serving not merely as adornments, but as indicators of social status, economic conditions, tribal affiliation, and even religious beliefs.
This research explores the types of traditional jewelry specific to the Wazit tribe in the city of Ghadames, the materials used in their production, and their symbolic and social significance.
